Challenge

The goal was to leverage state of art technology to improve five key experience contexts that had been previously identified regarding the employee and visitor experience: Access, meeting rooms, work desks, printing and visitor center.

Approach

During the research phase, we quickly realised that a change of space alone was not enough to trigger the cultural change the bank was trying to achieve. The answer was to design solutions that would enable the employees and visitors to make full use of the potential of this new environment by learning to use new tools, but also – more importantly – new behaviour and patterns of collaboration. In order to successfully implement the required changes, we conducted preliminary workshops, benchmarking, and analysis of best practices before conducting fieldwork with the BBVA team. Key user typologies were defined, experience diagnosis was developed based on interdepartmental interviews and office visits, and this was complemented by space & flow analysis of the HQ and its surroundings.

Result

Our contribution ensured that BBVA's move to its new flagship headquarters in Madrid, was not just about a change of space, but of culture. We also supported BBVA in the implementation phase through design definition, engineering, supervision of fabrication, piloting and testing.

We designed solutions to provide a seamless employee experience in the context of the company’s move to their new headquarters.

We leveraged this move as an opportunity to facilitate real cultural change through cultural, digital and spatial solutions that would empower and delight employees and visitors .

Meaningful collaboration occurred across
11 departments, involving over 70 stakeholders to co-create solutions for a "new way of working" vision which was tied to the move to BBVA´s new campus north of Madrid, a beautiful building designed by Pritzker prize winning studio Herzog and De Meuron.

We conducted in-depth interviews and co-creation exercises with employees and visitors in order to define a seamless 360° experience for the BBVA campus and visitor center.

After sixteen weeks, six client workshops, 184  pain points and 112 concepts, the 71 final solutions  were prioritised for implementation within a closing  client workshop.

As a next step we worked with BBVA on the detailed  development of some of the proposed solutions, with  special focus on digital signage and orientation within  the campus.
