Keep a quiet and healthy space at work

Repure

With Repure, any work or study area is transformed into a safe area, where the user can carry out their tasks without worrying about the surrounded enviroment. An ideal solution for open-plan offices to keep a quiet and healthy environment. It is adaptable to different types of computers and user needs. This project emerged as a project to combat covid 19, however, it evolved and developed an identity of its own, going beyond COVID-19 to address current issues of employee comfort and efficiency

Challenge

Bringing the focus afforded by working from home to the dynamic, social co-working environment. Understanding that users’ needs are both physical (a quiet working area) and psychological (creating a safe space).

Approach

It was important that some level of sound isolation be achieved even when no power was available. Practical experimentation with active and passive sound canceling technologies allowed us to find the most effective combinations. Rounded forms, soft fabrics, and textures help make the space feel more approachable and calming. Flexible divider sections allow the user to adapt the divider to their needs in the moment.

Result

An technically effective, adaptable, economically viable, and approachable solution to co-working that allows users to be as private and focused, or as open and collaborative as they wish.

Close attention was paid to creating an environment that was welcoming and comfortable, not oppressive and solitary. Target unit cost and manufacturing constraints were accommodated in the design where soft curves and fabrics sit comfortably with flat panels and off-the-shelf componentry.

Open and closed system

Positionable side panels effectively cocoon the user in a quiet, private space without creating an oppressive ‘cubicle’. The effectiveness of the active and passive noise cancelling can be tuned to users’ needs by moving the side panels.
